Sonata vs. Altima: Competent and confident midsize sedans
The Hyundai Sonata is all-new for 2020. With this revamp, the look might not be for everyone. But, we think the new Sonata is one of the coolest cars on the road. Every trim of the Sonata is a great choice. Even the base Sonata packs items that rivals charge extra. Among them are safety assists like lane-keeping, adaptive cruise control, and automatic emergency braking. Available on higher trims is class-exclusive tech, like a digital key that allows access and operation via smartphone or hotel-like key card. It also boasts Remote Smart Parking Assist which allows the car to ease itself in and out of parking spots. No wonder the 2020 Hyundai Sonata is KBB’s Best Tech Award winner. Two engine choices are available, plus a hybrid.
The latest version of the Nissan Altima debuted just last year, making it almost as fresh as the Sonata. The Altima’s exterior is more conservative but still crisp, clean and handsome. Nissan has a knack for comfortable cars, and that trait is a highlight in the Altima. From its plush front seats to its suspension, the 2020 Altima eats up the miles. The CVT isn’t as crisp as the 8-speed in the Sonata. Most Altima models come with a 2.5-liter 4-cylinder that is efficient and peppy. A turbo engine is also available. The Altima’s ace card is available all-wheel drive. It is one of only three midsize sedans to offer AWD (Subaru Legacy and Toyota Camry are the others).
Efficient, plenty of features, active safety systems.
